Acclimatisation

Here are the recommended instructions on how to acclimate your corals when they arrive at your destination.  We will modify these instructions soon with photos, in order to make the instructions more user-friendly and clearer.  Email us if you have questions about this process.

Floating method

1. Turn off the lights in the tank where the coral(s) will be placed.
2. Float the bag (still closed) for 15 minutes in the tank.
3. Cut open the bags and roll the top edge of the bag down approximately an inch to create an air pocket (attach the open bag to the edge of the tank with a clip to make the process easier).
4. Add a ½ cup of water from the tank to the shipping bag.
5. Repeat step 4 every few minutes until the bag is almost full.
6. Discard half of the water from the bag into a bucket (not in the tank!) and place the bag back in the tank (attached to the edge of the tank).
7. Repeatedly conduct  step 4 until the bag is almost full again.
8. Move the coral(s) from the bag into the tank.

9. Dispose of the water from the bag (not into the tank!).
10. Add salt water to your tank to the appropriate level.

Drip method

1. Turn off the lights in the tank where the coral(s) will be placed.
2. Float the bag (still closed) for 15 minutes in the tank.
3. Place the coral(s) from the shipping bag into a container or bucket with the water from the shipping bag.
4. Take an airline hose with an airline control valve at one end.  Put the hose side in the tank and the valve side in the container/bucket and create suction by sucking on the valve side.  Adjust the valve such that there will be approx 2 drips every second.
5. Dispose of half the water when the water in the container has doubled.
6. Continue with dripping until the water volume has doubled again.
7. Move the coral(s) from the container into the tank.  The coral will need be placed at the lower end of your tank.
8. Dispose of the water from the container (not into the tank!).
9. Add salt water to your tank to the appropriate level.

The total time of acclimating your coral(s) should not take longer than 60 minutes.

Turn off the tank lights for the day to reduce any additional stress on the corals so they can slowly acclimate themselfs to your lighting. We recommend placing the corals in the lower part of your tank and gradually move them over the next two weeks to its final position.
